Climate Innovation

The Hon Lam Woon-Kwong graduated from the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. He received his Master Degrees in Public Administration from the Harvard University and Buddhist Studies from the University of Hong Kong. He held a Secretary-level post in the former Hong Kong Government, and served as a Principal Official and official under the accountability system in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited and the Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2000.

Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges joined The Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1998 and has been its Chief Executive Officer since 2007. Under his leadership the Club has undergone significant transformation, developing its customer-centricity, more than tripling its charity donations, and raising the quality and profile of Hong Kong racing to a world-class standard. He is a Justice of the Peace and a Board Member of the Community Chest. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in the 2016 Honours List. Internationally, he is a Vice-Chairman of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities and Chairman of the Asian Racing Federation. Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges grew up in Germany, where he developed a passion for horse racing, breeding and ownership. A graduate from the University of Cologne in Economics, Finance and Statistics, he was a Board Member of the German Jockey Club for 10 years, serving as CEO for six years. He is also an avid football fan, and played football professionally in Germany before graduation.

Kenneth Leung is a member of the Legislative Council representing the accountancy functional constituency. He is currently the vice-chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and the Panel on Financial Affairs. Having been a tax practitioner for over 20 years and as one of the top tax advisers world-wide, Mr. Leung's primary policy focus is on taxation, public finance and financial services laws. He also takes a keen interest in Hong Kong's energy policy, sustainable development, economic diversification and political reform. He is the founding member and vice-chairman of the think tank, the Professional Commons.

Dr Chung is the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, assisting the Secretary for Innovation and Technology in strengthening the cooperation with the industry, academia and the research sector, fostering development of innovation and technology to promote development of high-end manufacturing industry as well as enhancing nurture of innovation and technology talents with an aim to create a vibrant ecosystem for innovation and technology. He has almost 30 years of experience in information technology strategic management and entrepreneurship development. Dr Chung worked as Chief Technology Officer at Cyberport Management Company Limited, responsible for taking forward its core mission on IT infrastructure, industry collaboration and incubation platforms for IT entrepreneurs.

Mr Chong Chan Yau has experience in international development, poverty reduction and humanitarian work. He is a leader in the field of equal opportunities, disability and inclusive education. Mr Chong has worked in government, academia as well as NGOs and business. He served in the Hong Kong Government as an administrative officer, worked as Director of Oxfam Hong Kong and joined the University of Hong Kong as the Director of Student Development. Mr Chong is active in promoting civil society in Hong Kong. He is Vice-Chairman of The Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities and President of the Hong Kong Blind Union. He has also been a member of the Education and Publicity Subcommittee of the Council for Sustainable Development, which is an advisory committee to the Hong Kong SAR Government on sustainability issues.

Mr Sean Kidney is the CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative, an international NGO working to mobilize debt capital markets for climate solutions. Projects include a green bond definitions and certification scheme with $34 trillion of assets represented on its Board and some 200 organizations involved in its development and governance; working with the Chinese central bank on how to grow green bonds in China; a Green Infrastructure Investment Coalition; and market development programs in India, Brazil, Mexico and East Africa. Mr Kidney has also been a consultant on green bonds to the United Nations Secretary General and was previously marketing advisor to a number of the largest Australian pension funds.

As Head of Asia at the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (UN-PRI), Ms Robinson is responsible for leading the PRI’s activities in the region. The PRI is an international network of investors working together to understand the implications of sustainability for investors and support signatories incorporate these issues into their investment decision-making and ownership practices. Prior to joining the PRI, Ms Robinson was Chief Executive and a Board Director of the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia (ASrIA), one of Asia’s leading think tanks working to promote sustainable finance and responsible investment across the region. Jessica is currently a member of Hong Kong’s Financial Services Development Council’s Green Finance Working Group.

Mr Wong is currently Deputy Executive Director and Head of Public Policy Institute of Our Hong Kong Foundation. Mr Wong is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the Master of Social Science in Global Political Economy, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Hong Kong University SPACE for the Institute for China Business. Mr Wong’s public service includes various advisory roles appointed by the Hong Kong Government, including Committee Member of the Financial Services Development Council, Sub-committee Co-opt Member of the Sustainable Development Council, Member of Investment Committee of the Beat Drugs Fund, and Member of Feasibility Study Working Group of “Special Needs Public Trust”.

Mr John Sayer has a background in sustainability issues and human development, climate change advocacy, organizational management and governance policy. Mr Sayer was Executive Director of Asia Monitor Resource Centre working on information technology, labour rights and workplace health and safety before joining Oxfam Hong Kong in 1991 as Program Director and then Executive Director. In 2001 he moved to Oxford to take up the post of Executive Director of Oxfam International for an interim period. In 2003 he became Director of Africa Now, a development agency working on market-based solutions for small-scale producers in Africa through business development services, and the promotion of ethical trade among international companies doing business in Africa. In 2006, he returned to Asia and re-joined Oxfam Hong Kong as Director General until 2013.

Prof Lo is currently a full professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). She received her Ph.D. degree in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992. Prof Lo was the recipient of the 2004 ASCE James Croes Medal, the 2007 ASCE Samuel Arnold Greeley Award, the 2008 EWRI Best Practice-Oriented Paper Award, the 2009 ASCE Wesley W Horner Award, and the 2012 ASCE EWRI Best Practice-Oriented Paper Award. Prof Lo has held 2 Patents, edited 7 technical books, and published over 270 SCI journal articles and conference papers with citation of 4750+ and H-index of 37.

Prof Michael K H Leung is Associate Dean and Professor of the School of Energy and Environment at the City University of Hong Kong. He is also a registered professional engineer and chartered engineer. His teaching and research interests include energy efficiency, renewable energy and air quality. He has received more than HK$16 million research funding. His works have been published in more than 100 journals, 60 conference papers, four patents and 14 books / book chapters.

Ir Albert Lai, the CEO of CCA, has been involved with green solutions and environmental organizations throughout his career. He was the founding chairman of the Professional Commons and the Hong Kong People's Council for Sustainable Development. He is a Director and past Chair of the Conservancy Association, the first non-government environmental group established in Hong Kong in 1968. He led the Hong Kong NGO delegation to the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg in 2002, and was also co-leader of the Hong Kong NGO delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conferences in Bali (2007) and Copenhagen (2009) and led the HK NGO delegation to the Paris Climate Summit (COP21) in December 2015. Ir Lai was a Stakeholder Council member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) responsible for the development of international sustainability reporting guidelines.

Mr Chak oversees the finance and capital markets functions of Link Real Estate Investment Trust ("Link REIT"). Mr Chak joined Link Asset Management Limited, manager of Link REIT, in June 2010 and is one of the responsible officers of the manager for the purpose of the Securities and Futures Ordinance. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wales (now known as Cardiff University). Before joining Link REIT, he was an executive director of CSI Properties Limited. Mr CHAK held various senior management positions at PCCW Limited between 1999 and 2007 and was an executive director of Pacific Century Premium Developments Limited until February 2007. He is currently an independent non-executive director of Tradelink Electronic Commerce Limited and a member of the Financial and Treasury Services Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Esmond LEE Kin Ying has been working in the Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) as Senior Advisor since August 2016. Before joining the FSDC, Esmond was working in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) as Executive Director responsible for financial infrastructure. Before joining the HKMA in 1993, Esmond was working in the Hong Kong Government as Principal Economist.

Hannah is a climate change and green finance specialist with 20 years of experience in the field. She leads the Sustainability and Climate Change consulting practice for PwC China. Recently Hannah has been a member of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) green finance working group, and has advised the B20 on green finance issues. Before joining PwC in 2011, Hannah ran the China office of a London-listed climate policy and carbon trading advisory company for five years, where she advised the Chinese, UK, US and Norwegian governments on climate policy. Prior to which she worked in London on green buildings and Swaziland on sustainable energy projects.

Katy is currently the Director of Investment at RS Group, a mid-sized Hong Kong-based family office with a focus on sustainable and impact investments. Formerly an investment banker at J.P. Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Limited, she worked as an Associate of the Hong Kong Corporate Finance division. She is also a member of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum and an Executive Board member of the Duke Club of Hong Kong. Katy graduated from Duke University in North Carolina with a BA in Economics and a minor on Comparative Area Studies.

Mr Cheung has more than two decades of extensive experience in global investment banking. He is currently the Senior Partner and CEO, Asia Pacific, at StormHarbour Securities. StormHarbour is an independent merchant banking partnership with 200 professionals in London, Geneva, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Copenhagen. Mr Cheung started his investment banking career in Canada in 1987. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto and a MBA degree from York University, Canada. Mr Cheung is a regular columnist in the Hong Kong Economic Journal and Ming Pao. He is also an Executive Board Member of Treasury Market Association (TMA), an industry body sponsored by Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).

Sannie is the Senior Sustainable Finance Campaigner of Greenpeace East Asia responsible for engaging with the financial community. Prior to joining Greenpeace, Sannie worked in corporate finance specializing in initial public offering and company law. She was then involved in social entrepreneurship. Sannie received her BA from the University of British Columbia, MA from The University of Hong Kong and LLB from Manchester Metropolitan University. An avid hiker and nature lover, Sannie is committed to serving the environment.

Marcy Trent Long has spent 15 years in senior finance roles in both the US and Asia. Most recently, she was a Director of Project Finance for InterGen, a Shell-Bechtel Joint Venture constructing large-scale power plants in China, the Philippines and Australia. Previously she worked for Mobil Oil in Mexico and the US Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. Marcy is serving as an energy advisor to WWF. She recently coauthored “Financing Carbon Reduction in Hong Kong: Utility Energy Efficiency Investments” and is finalizing a second paper discussing private sector energy efficiency financing alternatives. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, she also serves on the CMU Alumni Board. Marcy has an MBA from the Wharton School and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
