Climate change is now regarded as an existential risk for the human race. Whilst 195 countries have pledged to limit global warming to well below 2°C through the Paris Agreement negotiated last December, two key issues now confront the private sector: 1. What bold actions are necessary? 2. How do we mobilize the funds needed to support such actions?

  • THEMATIC SESSIONS

    1. Corporate Leadership: CarbonCare® Label Award 2016 (09:30 - 11:00)

A demonstration of how companies, institutions and government departments have taken bold steps in carbon reduction and sustainability reporting. We are much honoured to have invited Mr Lam Woon Kong, Convenor of HKSAR Executive Council, to be the officiating guest of this prestigious event.

    2. Green Finance: Development pathways (11:00 - 12:30)

With investment in long-term infrastructure assets needing to quadruple, green investment represents a major opportunity for both long-term investors and macroeconomic policymakers seeking to jump-start growth. Experienced local practitioners and overseas experts will explain how green finance can become mainstream, how roadblocks can be removed and what opportunities lie ahead.

Lunch with Special Presentation on the Outcomes of the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech (COP22) by Hong Kong delegates (12:30 - 14:00)

    3. Climate Innovation: HK showcases (14:00 - 15:30)

As Government pushes innovation to the top of the policy agenda, local researchers and entrepreneurs are offering pioneering technologies for climate mitigation and adaptation. Hong Kong is also an ideal setting for overseas innovation to demonstrate their potentials in a high-density urban context. Inspiring showcases in social and technological innovation will be shared in this exciting session.

      Networking reception (15:30 - 16:00)

    4. Financing Innovation: Future of Green Bond in Hong Kong (16:00 - 17:30)

China alone is likely to require around €500 billion a year from 2016 to 2020 to finance its national environmental goals. A substantial proportion of this is likely to be raised offshore, absorbing excess global savings, helping to push up global equilibrium interest rates, and ultimately increasing global growth. How can Hong Kong play a substantial role in green bond development, and how to spur green innovation with appropriate standards and incentives?
